Government appoints the next Fair Work Ombudsman
The handover will occur once Sandra Parker completes her term on 14 July.
The federal government has appointed Anna Booth as the nation’s next Fair Work Ombudsman taking over from Sandra Parker.
“I’m confident Ms Booth will execute her duties with skill, rigour and impartiality in the role,” said Mr Burke.
“The Albanese Labor government is committed to an independent, trusted and empowered Fair Work Ombudsman. The role of the Fair Work Ombudsman is more important than ever as the government moves to implement a better and fairer workplace relations system for Australian workers.”
“It includes promoting harmonious, productive and co-operative workplaces, and improving compliance in workplaces covered by the Fair Work Act 2009 and fair work instruments.”
Mr Burke also thanked Ms Parker for everything she achieved in the role since 2018 and revealed her term would end on 14 July.
He said Ms Booth’s five-year term would begin on 1 September with deputy Fair Work Ombudsman Kristen Hannah to act in the role during the crossover period.
Ai Group chief executive Innes Willox congratulated Ms Booth on her appointment and said he looked forward to working with her in the future.
“Ms Booth has a significant depth of experience that she will be able to draw upon for this challenging role,” said Mr Willox.
“Core functions of the FWO include providing education, assistance, advice and guidance to employers and employees. This work will be crucial in the years ahead given the breadth and complexity of the government’s recently implemented and currently proposed changes to Australia’s workplace relations system.”
