perks stretches paid parental leave scheme

The professional services firm has announced the expansion of its paid parental leave scheme to 26 weeks of paid leave.

Perks, based in Adelaide, has revealed it has extended the time frame of its paid parental leave scheme for its employees and team members to strengthen support for working families.

The scheme would be effective immediately and apply to team members who were their child’s primary caregiver.

Team members would be offered 26 weeks of paid leave, a significant improvement on the previous policy which provided tiered benefits up to a maximum of 12 weeks parental leave.

Perks CEO James Black said the new policy highlighted the firm's commitment to fostering a family-friendly workplace through valuing work/life balance and long-term career development and progression.

“We firmly believe Perks parental leave entitlements are now among the most generous for an independent firm in the professional services industry and compare favourably with policies of the Big 4 and mid-tier firms,” Black said.

“By enhancing our paid parent leave provisions, we are giving our team members the flexibility and support they need during one of the most important and rewarding times in their lives.”

Perks also said secondary caregivers were now entitled to four weeks of paid parental leave, which had been increased from one week.

This improvement was included under the newly designed policy to further support team members in balancing their professional and family responsibilities, according to the firm.

“The new policy is also an investment in our people, ensuring that we can continue to attract and retain talented staff by fostering a positive and supportive environment where they feel empowered to thrive personally and professionally,” Black said.

“Our strengthened support of our team members is part of a broader commitment to improving employee wellbeing across all levels of the organisation through social events, professional development and support of community organisations.”

Perks partnered with The Village Co. to provide new parents with a gift hamper and meal voucher at the beginning of their parental leave.

The firm said for every hamper it purchases, a Village Co. baby bag was donated to help support new mothers and their newborns, providing essential items to families in need.
