the tax institute names 2025 president

The Tax Institute has revealed Tim Sandow will step up as president for 2025.

Current vice president for The Tax Institute, Tim Sandow, has been announced as its upcoming president for 2025.

The Tax Institute said Sandow, a partner at BDO Adelaide, had been vice president for 2024 and had also sat on the institute’s National Council since 2018.

The Tax Institute noted Sandow had more than 30 years of experience as a tax professional, 25 of those being within the big four.

Throughout his career, Sandow has provided income tax-related advice to a variety of private and large public companies as well as multinationals.

Sandow also advised on mergers and acquisitions, tax governance, corporate tax, international tax, and employment tax issues.

Sandow said he was looking forward to beginning his time as president and further representing the members in that capacity.

“The Tax Institute is the home of tax in Australia. From education programs to CPD events, tax resources to professional recognition, when tax practitioners think tax, those in the know think The Tax Institute,” he said.

“One of the key things we do, which I’m passionate about, is advocating for the profession and in particular, on behalf of our members.”

“Over the years, and perhaps particularly in recent years, our advocacy work has also gained us a reputation as the voice of tax.”

According to Sandow, The Tax Institute planned a full schedule for 2025 of professional development opportunities for tax practitioners.

This would include 27 CPD events, three intake opportunities for structured learning, open-ended options for micro-credential learning and regular member-exclusive resources.

Sandow said over the past four years it had been made clear that real advocacy was required that would result in “real action.”

The activity of advocates across COVID-19 JobKeeper measures and TASA changes had made a genuine impact on the shape of the tax system, Sandow noted.

“The Tax Institute’s role as the voice of tax is not about how smart we are. It’s about how effectively we can represent our members’ concerns, ideas and opinions,” he said.

“I really look forward to seeing and engaging with members at an event this year, working on advocacy matters and representing the Institute’s members and their interests.”
