KPMG partners with Microsoft to launch digital ESG tracker
The Circularity Tracker will help automate data collection and provide greater depth of tracking and comparison for businesses.
KPMG has collaborated with Microsoft to launch a contemporary system to support businesses in improving their environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments.
Through its partnership with Microsoft, the firm said the KPMG Circularity Tracker used the Microsoft Cloud to help unify data intelligence and enable sustainability management for organisations developing their ESG undertaking.
KPMG said the software measured and tracked circularity at every level of an enterprise's products, locations and materials, and that it also would provide comparisons across products and insights on how to reduce primary resource use and waste generation.
Circularity means a product or service was renewed or regenerated rather than wasted, enabling a product or resource to be reused improves its circularity and could help businesses meet stricter ESG goals.
The Circularity Tracker also helps to automate data collection from various sources and could perform model-based calculations using standards, regulatory reporting metrics and globally accepted frameworks for circularity performance.
KPMG International head of global ESG, John McCalla-Leacy said the development of the KPMG Circularity Tracker would help businesses increase the importance placed on their ESG commitments.
“At the heart of KPMG’s global alliance with Microsoft is a shared desire and passion to help businesses do the right thing and deliver on their commitments to be more sustainable,” said Mr McCalla-Leacy.
“My view is that we’re entering a new stage in the corporate world where boardrooms are taking ESG seriously and want to implement solutions that can reduce environmental impact, while increasing social equity and transparency.”
“Often the biggest barrier to achieving that is a lack of understanding about how to gather genuinely insightful data and how to use that information to deliver positive change. As KPMG firms enter the next step in our alliance with Microsoft, I’m confident that we, together with KPMG professionals and clients, can move towards a model that empowers business leaders to play a more robust, proactive role in creating a sustainable future that works for all.”
Vice president of cross solutions at Microsoft Shelly Blackburn said the software would help customers develop their ESG strategies.
“We are pleased to work with KPMG to deliver innovative Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability solutions that help customers unify their data intelligence and gain insights about their overall carbon footprint,” said Ms Blackburn.
“KPMG Circularity Tracker can enable customers to develop and execute robust strategies to achieve their ESG goals.”
