La dolce vita indeed
Ferrari has unveiled a convertible version of its Roma sportscar that harks back to the “pleasure-seeking Italian lifestyle of the 1950s and 60s”, it says. So the Roma Spider has classic sportscar proportions with a long bonnet, set-back cabin and graceful tail that evokes Ferrari models from the postwar decades.
As well as its folding soft-top, the Roma Spider features a twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8 good for 456kW of power, propelling you and your co-driver into the sweet life at blistering pace – 100km/h in just 3.4 seconds. Gear changes are via steering wheel-mounted paddles and there are eight ratios that will max out the car at more than 320km/h – if you can find a suitable autobahn or racetrack. Aerodynamics – a challenge for some convertibles – matches its coupe twin, Ferrari says, thanks to intense analysis by its aero specialists and a spoiler that automatically adjusts for best effect. First Australian customers should get cars late this year or early next, with prices likely to start around $450,000.
